. We have all been there, and to tell you the truth I was there a couple months ago. The fact of the matter is you need to have some “hidden” knowledge that your opponents don’t have? “To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy”, The Art of War, by Sun Tzu. It sounds like a step back in the wrong direction but practicing locally is an effective way to get better. Just like any other games where people hold competitions like Madden (the popular football video game), you have to practice a lot in order to get good at the game. Well, COD Black Ops Online mode is no different than any other game. If you follow these simple tips you should be on your way to playing better against other online players.

Most Useful Call of Duty: Black Ops Online Play Tips
1. Maps – Get Familiar With Your Surroundings
The most effective way to beat your enemies is know the maps better than them. To do this I simply go on “local” play and just walk around until I know the map like the back of my hand. When you do this you will want to find the high points (because chances are if you go for the high points you will have the upper-hand on your enemy.) However, don’t just sit there. Keep in mind where your enemies will be coming from and practice pumping lead into their chest (actually I would go for the head). This won’t just help you getting better at one mode, but rather all of them. Knowledge is power. Find out the little hidden places you throw a grenade at your enemies and then pop into your spot and snipe them down. It is all about studying the maps and finding out where other players are going to be.
2. Theater Helps Like Crazy
OMG if there is one thing I love about Call of Duty: Black Ops it is the theater. The cool thing is it saves all your online games for several days so you can go back and analyze what went wrong or even right. It is not just fun to watch, but also you can learn lots of valuable data from watching them. Who is the best player, and take note what guns they are using, what three perks, ect. Also, take note on where everyone is dying and then camp out out of sight, of course to stalk the areas and rack up the kills. Believe me it works! Call of Duty is just like football and you study what people are doing and you will surely pick up tidbits of information to make you a better player.
3. Combat Training – Practice Makes Perfect
Now before I get into finding what gun I want to play with I like to play against AI bots online and collect COD points. You can even invite your friends to participate in these “combat training” modes which is pretty cool, as well. This is often much funner than playing local because you are gaining experience and simulating your online play. Not to mention you don’t have to spend your hard earned points on your real online profile. It is a lot of fun too!
4. Best Class
I wish there was a black and white answer I could give you for the best class to choose for COD, but honestly everyone is different and no two classes are right for everyone’s style of play. Thankfully, there is “create a class!” Check them out in local so you don’t waist your points. For instance, if you have a hard time aiming and shooting people in the head (getting “headshots, HA HA”) than you need the “steady aim” perk. I recommend this for beginners and going with a gun with good accuracy. However, if you are mover and like to sneak up on people and shank them then I would recommend “Lightweight”. Different strokes for different folks!
5. Playing Stupid
Take cover or get your head blown clean off your shoulders. It should be programmed into your head! This is one of the most important parts to becoming a good player on Call of Duty Black Ops online. You never see experienced players running around like chickens with their heads’ cut off in the open. If you got to run in the open sprint and prepare to take cover. Don’t get me started about running around corners, as well. This is a perfect recipe for getting filled with bullets.
6. Use Your Equipment To Help Yourself
Personally, I love Claymores because they are for the COD novice, but can really rack up the kills quickly. Remember the theater, well use this to your advantage. Put your Claymores in the hotspots where there is a lot of traffic. This will insure that you get a ton of kills and play better online. There are all kinds of different equipment that you can use to your advantage so use what works for your style of play.
7. Killstreaks – Feed On Each Other
Oh yeah baby! More kills equals a better killstreak. More kills means you can unlock different stuff and feed on your kills. So keep killing! There is even one perk that allows you to lower the killstreak by one. That means instead of having to get 3 kills for a UAV you only have to get 2 kills. Two kills isn’t that hard is it
. I forgot what this perk is called, but I always use it because it is just that good!
8. Cover Your Teammates
Well this could be cover your teammates or possibly follow the more experienced players so that you can cover them. They will really like it if you stick with them and cover them while they get the kills. Chances are if they die then you can cap their foe that put a bullet in their head. Not to mention you are being a team player, which will help you get more wins. A team is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Cover them with smoke grenades and frags.
9. Participate With Teammates
Just simply talking to them will do. There is a sniper on the roof to your right? Don’t be a douche or anything, but advice and actually watching their back will take you a long way. Who knows they might actually start telling when enemies are around you when you need it. It’s a good way to meet new players and you might even suggest practicing with them in the “Combat Training” mode.
10. Slow – Practice
You need to take it slow. You are not going to be the best player within the first day, week, or maybe even month of playing Call of Duty Black Ops online. It takes time and you have to lay low until you get the feel of the game. You will need to practice the maps as much as possible before really getting the most kills on different maps. I guarantee that if you practice the same map for an hour a day for a week you will become a much better Call of Duty Black Ops online player.
The absolute worst thing you can do is get pissed of break your controller and stop playing Call of Duty Black Ops. Ask anyone who is good at this game. How did they get good? They died a lot. And, I mean a lot. Every time you die you can learn from your mistakes. Think of it this way their are so many novice COD players online for you to hunt down. Doing all these modes Team Death Match, Mercenary, Free For All, Domination, Ground War, Demolition, Sabotage, Headquarters, Capture The Flag, Search And Destroy, and Team Tactical.
